In the Spring mushroom hunters, bird
watchers, fishermen, and early freighter spotters all get a workout. The frosted
bows of the freighters chase the late ice out of the St. Mary's river just
off shore through the DeTour Passage. Numerous types of birds welcome
DeTour in the spring months, including robins and blue jays.
Summer is dominated by water sports, boating, fishing, sailing and beachcombing.
DeTour has a state-run 80 slip marina, two public and several private launch
ramps along with the local businesses that support them. Vacation rentals are in
full swing during the peak summer months. Restaurants, shops and sporting goods
stores thrive during this period, meeting most demands. Join the 4th of July
parade, the hot fishing spots, the DeTour Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored
Salmon Derby, or just hunt for Pudding Stones on the many beaches that surround
DeTour.
Many tourists take advantage of the slow pace that the fall brings each year. Scenic drives to see the remarkable colors of the changing leaves are common as well as visiting the pumpkin patches to select the perfect fall pumpkin. Check for lodging and restaurant specials at this time.
Being closer to the North Pole than the equator, winter sports thrive in DeTour. They include snowmobiling, fishing and cross-country skiing. Groomed trails run right into town with restaurants and lodging on or near the trails. Ferry to Drummond Island for a run across the ice to Canada, or hit the trails through the woods to Cedarville or Sault Ste. Marie. Catch perch and walleye through the ice or ski the quiet trails in the secluded woods.
Golf Info: These courses are all within 50miles of DeTour Village.
